Wellness and Why It Matters
Wellness is dynamic progression of being aware of and making choices that leads to a pleasing and fulfilling life. It is more than been free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. It is a realization of one’s true potential to live a healthier, happier and more successful and balanced existence. It is the result of the cautious and considered efforts which leads to having a state of being healthy in both body and mind.
Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Our wellbeing in turn affects our actions and emotions making wellness a very crucial factor to consider. Wellness is therefore a factor that one needs to ensure that they have achieved and maintained so as to avoid stress and decrease risks and attain affirmative reactions. Wellness is a proactive life process utilizing awareness and decisions towards a healthy, fulfilling and balanced lifestyle.
Wellness is composed of eight scopes; occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, social and intellectual. Each proportion of wellness have a relationship with each other and contribute equally to achieving better wellbeing. Emotional wellness involves one having a good understanding of one’s emotions and managing stress effectively. It is essential for one to be attentive when it comes to self-care and relaxation and also trying to grow and learn from experience. It means having the capability to know and get in terms with our emotions rather than rejecting them, have a positive approach to life and enjoy it regardless of the often disappointments. Environmental wellness encourages us to live a lifestyle that respects our surrounding and inspires us to live in harmony and taking care of the environment. This promotes our interaction with nature and personal environment. Spiritual wellness is represented through religion, it gives one a reason in life and thus developing a set of values that guide how they live it.
Financial wellness is the process of learning how to manage financial expenses successfully. Stress is majorly caused by one having money issues and the inability to settle expenses and debts. Financial stability compared to instability brings a peace of mind and satisfaction to one’s life and improves the general wellbeing of the individual.
Intellectual wellness is having an open mind when handling situations, embracing new ideas and continuing to expand your knowledge.
Occupational wellness involves being happy in your daily activities like in your job and always appreciating your growth and contribution in it. Social wellness gives us the ability to interact with other people and perform our roles in the society.
Optimal physical wellness is achieved through the combination of beneficial physical activity and healthy eating habits.
